Painter: Firs Sergeevich Zhuravlev
Zhuravlev was a Russian artist who favored genre scenes that, like a spotlight, highlighted the vices of his contemporary society. His rebellious streak, his desire to expose and rebuke stupidity and cruelty, was one of the artist’s main traits. This is also evidenced by his participation in the so-called "rebellion of fourteen" - the Academy of Fine Arts held a large competition in honor of their centennial.
A description of Firs Zhuravlev’s painting Children Beggars
Zhuravlev was a Russian artist who favored genre scenes that, like a spotlight, highlighted the vices of his contemporary society. His rebellious streak, his desire to expose and rebuke stupidity and cruelty, was one of the artist’s main traits.
This is also evidenced by his participation in the so-called "rebellion of fourteen" - the Academy of Fine Arts held a large competition in honor of their centennial. The prize for the winner was to be an expensive medal made of pure gold. However, fourteen graduates, among whom were the best students, refused to participate in the contest and defiantly left the Academy.
"Beggar’s Children" is one of his paintings, which is fully characterized by all the artist’s characteristic reception. It is very emotional, very simple, and it is easy to get a story behind it. Across the snowy, ice-covered river, running an official - his left hand awkwardly holds a folder of papers at his side, several layers of clothing make him look fat, his cap pulled low over his eyes. He clearly wants to hurry to the warmth, to untangle his scarf, to warm his hands. He doesn’t even look at the children tugging at his sleeve.
The boy is a little angry, a little confused by this state of affairs - because of his young age he has not yet had time to get used to the everyday injustice of life. The girl holds out her hands in supplication, but also with the usual bitterness - she is older than the boy, she already understands that this angry man can hardly help them. The dusky winter sky above them, evening is drawing near.
Soon, the official shoves the children away in a casual manner and hurries forward, not even thinking of them.
He has tea and a warm bed to fall into in the evening. Whether the children have anything is of no interest to him.
The picture is characterized by completeness and focus on the main image. It seems as if the whole thing is drawn to the middle, draws the viewer’s eye just to her. The rest of the painting is no less diligent and inspired, but not as important. The sky and the river, the buildings blurring in the haze - they are just the background

The picture has something of this: people, wear, group, man, child, two, woman, son, lid, veil, outerwear, elderly, affection, offspring, baby, position.
Perhaps it’s a painting of a man and two children standing in the snow with a man holding a child’s hand and a woman.
