Beyond the fields, a cluster of buildings forms the town. The architecture is characterized by simple, whitewashed walls and terracotta tiled roofs. Prominently featured is a large Romanesque church with a fortress-like appearance, its stone structure rendered in earthy orange and brown tones. A smaller white steeple with a blue roof rises above it. The sky above is a clear, pale turquoise, painted with a similar sense of light and airiness.
The overall impression is one of a sun-drenched, bustling provincial town. The thick application of paint and the bold, swirling brushstrokes are characteristic of Vincent van Goghs style, conveying a passionate and almost tactile experience of the landscape and the artists emotional response to it. The bright colors and dynamic application of paint suggest a sense of vitality and intensity in the scene. The juxtaposition of the cultivated fields with the ancient church might evoke themes of nature and human settlement, the passage of time, and the enduring presence of faith and community in a specific locale.
