BIRDS IN THE LANDSCAPE
Mysterious birds appeared to me
In a dream last night – I dreamt of birds
With faces. Their plumage was vibrant.
A feather fell onto my hand.
I woke up. My senses were confused.
I look out the window – crows are sitting on the poplars,
Which wont disturb the morning scene in any way.
But why are they silent?
Its so strange – they dont want to sing.
Their souls must be tired.
They sit there, and then they will fly away.
I speak of speeds,
That carry us towards the body of death.
The landscape of winter, whose whiteness
Will drive you mad with its silence,
In contrast to the silence of the blue sky.
You cannot comment Why?
The adult bird dominates the visual field with its imposing size and detailed plumage. The artist has paid close attention to capturing the texture of the feathers, using subtle variations in color and tone to suggest depth and volume. Its gaze is directed downwards, seemingly protective and watchful over the young one. A sense of quiet vigilance permeates the scene; the bird appears poised, ready for action should it be necessary.
The color palette is dominated by earthy tones – browns, greens, and yellows – which contribute to a naturalistic feel. The lighting seems diffused, creating soft shadows that enhance the three-dimensionality of the subjects. Theres an almost scientific precision in the rendering of details; the artist’s focus appears less on emotional expression and more on accurate representation.
Subtly, the work explores themes of parental care, protection, and the cycle of life within a natural setting. The juxtaposition of the adult bird’s strength and maturity with the vulnerability of the fledgling evokes a sense of continuity and dependence. The dense foliage surrounding the nest can be interpreted as symbolizing both shelter and isolation – highlighting the precariousness of existence even within a seemingly secure environment. The overall impression is one of quiet observation, inviting contemplation on the intricate relationships that exist within the natural world.
