Here we see a man with a carefully styled powdered wig, its voluminous shape indicative of the fashion prevalent in the mid-18th century. His complexion is rendered pale, typical of portraiture aiming to convey refinement and status. The eyes are dark and appear to hold a degree of self-assurance, while the mouth is subtly curved into what might be interpreted as a polite smile.
The sitters clothing contributes significantly to his presentation. He wears a dark coat with gold buttons, layered over a pink waistcoat that peeks out from beneath.
