The leftmost panel features a jellyfish suspended in the water column. Its translucent bell glows with an internal light, while its long tentacles cascade downwards, creating a sense of ethereal movement. Darker vegetation anchors the lower portion of this section, suggesting depth and providing contrast against the luminous jellyfish.
The central panel presents a large predatory fish – a barracuda – swimming towards the viewer. Its sharp teeth are clearly visible, conveying an impression of power and potential danger. The fishs streamlined form cuts through the water with apparent ease, its scales reflecting the ambient light. Above it, a smaller, indistinct shape is discernible, possibly another marine creature or simply a distortion in the water’s surface.
The rightmost panel introduces a starfish resting on the seabed. Its vibrant orange hue provides a striking visual counterpoint to the predominantly green palette of the other panels. The presence of rocks and more vegetation reinforces the sense of an established underwater ecosystem.
The artists use of color contributes significantly to the overall mood. The cool greens evoke tranquility, while the bright orange of the starfish injects a note of vitality. The lighting is diffused, creating a dreamlike quality that obscures details and enhances the feeling of being submerged.
Subtly, the triptych structure may suggest a progression or sequence within this underwater world – from the gentle presence of the jellyfish to the assertive dominance of the barracuda, culminating in the stillness of the starfish. The arrangement could also be interpreted as representing different facets of the marine environment: beauty and fragility (jellyfish), power and predation (barracuda), and resilience and adaptation (starfish). The composition invites contemplation on themes of life, death, and the delicate balance within an ecosystem.
