The palette is restricted primarily to shades of blue, purple, pink, and white. These colors are not employed naturalistically; rather, they contribute to an overall atmospheric effect. The blues and purples define the receding planes of the background and shadow areas on the mountainsides, while the pinks and whites suggest highlights catching the light. This limited color range creates a sense of distance and ethereal quality, evoking a feeling of coldness or remoteness.
The application of paint is characterized by flat planes of color, with minimal blending. The edges between these planes are often sharp, contributing to a geometric feel that simplifies the natural forms. Theres an absence of traditional perspective cues; depth is suggested through tonal variations and overlapping shapes rather than linear recession.
Subtly, the work conveys a sense of awe and perhaps even insignificance in the face of monumental scale. The simplification of form and the muted color scheme suggest not merely a depiction of mountains but also a meditation on their grandeur and the sublime experience they inspire. It is possible to interpret this as an exploration of the relationship between humanity and nature, where the vastness of the landscape dwarfs individual perception. The cropped composition further reinforces this sense of being confronted by something immense and unknowable.
