The painting depicts a dramatic celestial battle between the Archangel Michael and Lucifer. Michael, with powerful wings and a determined expression, is shown descending from above, clad in light armor, wielding a sword and shield. He is actively engaged in combat, pushing Lucifer down amidst swirling clouds and rubble.
Lucifer, depicted as a muscular, fallen figure, is being forcefully repelled by Michael. He is shown struggling, his body contorted as he falls, clutching a trident-like weapon, a symbol often associated with demonic power.
