Bogdanov-Belskys depictions of people, especially their faces, are so clear and detailed that they almost look like photographs.
Bogdanov-Belsky masterfully depicted the simple life of a Russian person; at least, that is my sincere belief.
In this work, he remarkably conveyed the expression on the face of an ordinary peasant girl, whose eyes, indeed, are captivating and confirm the saying about the mysteriousness of the Russian soul, for as we know, the eyes are its mirror, and in these eyes, in my opinion, there is a true enigma. Her face is fair, quiet, calm, and glows especially; looking at her, one does not think that she is a bad or incapable student, but rather, one immediately declares that she holds a leading position among her familiar peers. As proof of this, the author of the painting presents us with another student, whose face shows obvious tension even in the attempt to master knowledge. Moreover, its not an exaggeration to say that the student whose face glows is a joyful student, who can easily complete even just elementary education very successfully; this student is a model of purity and innocence, a model of unparalleled gentleness, such gentleness that with each deeper understanding of it, one falls in love with her facial expression, pays attention to her gaze, whether suffering or quietly joyous, and understands: Ah, what an extraordinary beauty this Russian soul possesses; no, truly: a great beauty!
Girls, likely students of a parish school. In Russia, it was often women who carried out the mission of education among the peasantry. My great-grandmother graduated from such a school with honors. It was a very noble and meaningful work.
Very beautiful Slavic face.
A brilliant thing.

The image is a painting depicting two young girls seated side-by-side. The girl on the left is engrossed in reading a book, her brow furrowed in concentration. She is wearing a dark headscarf and a blue blouse with a patterned skirt. The girl on the right is looking away from the viewer, her expression thoughtful. She wears a lighter-colored headscarf and a patterned dress over a white blouse. In her lap, she holds an abacus, a tool for calculation, suggesting a connection to learning or perhaps practical skills. The background appears to be a wooden interior, possibly a classroom or a simple home.
