The Black Text of the Real Jesus
Silence: Christs death has come.
And a candle brings that inscription closer,
Where, as it says, God is already dead.
The letters are pain, and they are inside the eye.
In them is the swirling blood of the deceased Son.
They have become vessels of tears.
Returning again to the painting.
And flowing like Marys tears,
Gathering into a single word:
WEEP...
All creatures and all things are in fear,
And they mourn Jesus...
You cannot comment Why?
Surrounding them are several figures, their faces largely obscured by shadow, suggesting a profound sense of shared grief or contemplation. A man in a red robe and a white collar, possibly a religious or noble figure, is positioned prominently, his gaze directed towards Christ. His presence, along with others in more formal attire, hints at a blend of religious devotion and a more worldly, perhaps even political, context for the scene.
The overall atmosphere is one of intense drama and pathos, amplified by the chiaroscuro technique, which uses strong contrasts between light and dark to create volume and emotional intensity. The stark lighting and the solemn expressions of the figures evoke a deep sense of mourning and the gravity of the event. The painting skillfully captures the emotional weight of Christs death and the sorrow of those mourning him.
