Klimt’s work of art called The Kiss is not only the best painting of all the works of this painter, but it is also a significant and unique painting that was created in the twentieth century. The celebration of the painting’s one hundredth anniversary is an excellent reason to think about what might give us, posterity, the full right to give the work in honor of this anniversary a confident statement: yes, this is indeed a work that has rightly earned the title of a true world masterpiece among the many equally interesting and famous works of world art. When Klimt painted this work at the age of forty-six, he was quite mature, energetic and at the same time successful among a huge number of talented painters.
Description of Gustav Klimt’s painting The Kiss

The celebration of the painting’s one hundredth anniversary is an excellent reason to think about what might give us, posterity, the full right to give the work in honor of this anniversary a confident statement: yes, this is indeed a work that has rightly earned the title of a true world masterpiece among the many equally interesting and famous works of world art.
When Klimt painted this work at the age of forty-six, he was quite mature, energetic and at the same time successful among a huge number of talented painters. This work is a very recognizable and distinctive work for the artist. It is perhaps impossible to find motifs in this work that are not found in the painter’s past works.
The image in the picture of meadows, dotted with small flowers is already familiar to us from his previous landscapes. The image of almost the same head as in "The Kiss," a bent female head with her eyes closed can be seen in the work "The Three Ages of Woman.
The whole key feature of "The Kiss" is far from novelty, but the presence of a harmonious coordination of each motif, brought to a plastic and semantic perfection that emphasizes the highest degree of clarity and completeness.
First of all, the viewer is surprised by the shining gold. The presence of gold droplets in the background and the gold leaf, gold stems and leaves occupy about seventy percent of the entire canvas of this phenomenal and yet world-famous work.

помог бы кто рассказик по этой картине на тему "нарисунке я вижу"
A short story? Easy!
About 10 years ago, I had a business trip to London. I was placed in a private apartment with a lady who was considerably older than me; the owners were renting it out. She had one room, and I had another. The living room was for shared use. We settled in, got comfortable, and in the evening we met in the living room to share our impressions. During a casual conversation, the lady said: I wonder what things were like in my room when the owners lived here? It seems like there are bookshelves on the walls that are hung quite low. Looks like a childs room. She paused. But... what else? she asked. Well, theres SUCH a painting on the wall... SUCH a one... I would never hang THAT in a childs room, she added.
For a few minutes, I imagined what might be depicted in THAT kind of painting: illustrations from the Kama Sutra? scenes of sadomasochism involving pedo-necrozoophiles??? Exhausted, I asked if I could see the painting. You probably already guessed – it was Klimts The Kiss. Mesmerized, I looked at a reproduction of what I considered to be an extremely chaste painting. Years have passed, and I still remember that incident from time to time. And I still wonder – what did she actually see in the picture?
We are all so different. Before meeting us, they lived on another planet, in their own world. We expect a reaction similar to ours, and then suddenly complete indifference, or something completely unexpected that you could never have imagined. Let it go, and you will feel better.
По-моему, просьба была написать рассказ на тему " на рисунке я вижу", а не " что же она видела на рисунке".
In the painting, I see the universe and the edge of our flourishing earth. Life, love, a man, a woman – I see how they flow into each other. She completely trusts him. Because one wrong move, and they could fall into the universe. And also, everything in this world is not eternal, and everything will eventually end – both life and love. Cherish your love!
He is black, she is white, just like me and my loved one. The gleam of gold in the painting is captivating and alluring! It truly evokes a feeling of love through colors – a sense of summer and harmony (we all long for spring and summer), the beginning of new love and new life, and he holds her gently and protectively in his embrace, as a man should hold a woman. She is basking in female happiness. This is an example of true love! Everyone wants to experience such feelings. I associate this painting with my own love and emotions. I have completely fallen in love with this painting, and I want to decorate my room in this style! Its simply amazing that I discovered such a masterpiece!
He is no longer young, with streaks of grey amidst the black hair; she is youthful, blooming, and delicate. He is consumed by a frantic passion, his entire body trembling... She is filled with doubts; her mind resists, but her fingers and hands weakly succumb to the pressure; the turn of her head is an attempt to escape the kiss... Yet, despite everything, passion, desire, and tension are at their peak, on the brink of death or a precipice – all of this is stronger than reason, stronger than doubt. The entire figure of the woman is imbued with tension; her big toe is unnaturally bent, foreshadowing both the ecstasy of the body and the turmoil of her mind. A sense of unease, dizziness, nausea, trembling, a desire to escape and find safety, and the clear prospect of further events...
In my opinion, its impossible to describe exactly what is depicted in the painting. Yes, we see a couple, but everyone attributes their own meaning to the mask. In my understanding, the symbolism comes not from the kiss itself, but from the gestures and the background. The kiss is nothing more than a transmission of the merging of two souls. However, notice that the womans feet are in chains. To me, this represents happiness amidst unimaginable pain. It is precisely this pain that gives the painting its meaning. The woman tries to grasp the hand of the person she loves, but her attempts are futile. It is an island of spring and love, intertwined with pain and suffering.
Heres our encounter with the great Austrian artist... We have Klimts The Kiss in a tapestry format in our shop. A lady came in, looked at the tapestries for a long time with an air of expertise, and then stopped in front of Klimts work. She suddenly asked the salesperson: Why is the painting hung vertically? They are supposed to lie on sofas! Our employee was initially taken aback... Recovering himself, he carefully suppressed his hysterical laughter and explained: If you want The Kiss on your sofa, then youll have to paint a sofa into the picture... The customer quickly left the shop, or rather, she rushed out as if scalded... Probably heading to a place where The Kiss is actually on a sofa.
... бесконечная нежность...
I live in Vladivostok and I love everything Eastern, especially Japanese antique prints. By chance, I walked into the art department of a department store and saw the tapestry The Kiss. Even without knowing the artist, I was immediately struck by the similarity of the subject matter to that of Japanese prints. Theres the same ambiguity, false tension, and blatant sensuality in the poses. I couldnt take my eyes away from either the gold shimmering on the tapestry or the scene itself. In this painting, I saw a long-awaited lover arriving at his beloveds side at dawn, while she was still asleep. He lifts her and embraces her so unexpectedly and passionately that she instinctively grips the edge of the bed with her feet to avoid falling. Her body is still asleep, soft and yielding. And her beloved savors her sleep in unimaginable bliss and mutual consent. Even her hand, with its curled fingers around the mans neck, seems like a copy from prints depicting elegant Japanese women. I bought this tapestry, and even now, looking at it brings me pleasure.
Moscow. A shop with a wide selection of paintings. As a birthday gift to myself, I chose this particular work of art! The Kiss – a painting that is a mystery to me. But I know for sure that it contains positivity. In the shop, I also saw another artwork depicting a woman who had been driven to despair and disappointment by lifes hardships. Her salvation lies in the arms of her loved one. They say that the best remedy for a womans sadness is the embrace and kiss of a man, a beloved man. And this painting seems to prove it. Look at how happy and peaceful she looks, feeling warm and comfortable in the arms of this handsome and energetic lover. The tenderness and satisfaction melt away the weeds that had entangled her. Overall, the painting has a luxurious and vibrant feel. The opulent shawls..., the subtle scent of perfume..., the purity and softness of the skin... A small patch of delicate greenery smells of spring, of new life beginning.
Phallic symbol! I see... a married man, accustomed to dominance... He is strong and... tender. The design of his clothing suggests that he does not welcome romance. Only sexual desire. She... She loves him, but she doesnt have the strength to fight her love... She doesnt know whether to surrender to this universe or... push away his hands. Raised shoulders, tense feet, the absence of fingers caressing her – all of it indicates that she is... not ready to give in... She wants love, not just sexual pleasure. The design on her part of the painting is different! Its romantic, floral, softer, and more... feminine. There is no pleasure on her face, only contemplation. She wants to possess his feelings, his thoughts. The wreath that extends from her to him, gently wrapping his hair, whispers about this. And most importantly, she doesnt pay any attention to the golden clothing he wraps around her...
A man loves a woman and openly expresses his love without shame. She also loves him, BUT something prevents her from letting go of herself and her feelings. We are left to only guess what that might be. What is holding her back? Perhaps they are not free to be together, or maybe they belong to different religions. She is very stressed because she longs to be with him, but at the same time she knows that its not allowed. And all of this is on a precipice, and its uncertain whether they will fall if they are together, or if she pushes him away.
Вы слышите ль влюбленный шепот,
И поцелуев сладкий звук,
И прерывающийся ропот
Последней робости...
Its a very sad picture for me. I see in the woman despair because she is yielding to male passion, even though she craves love and tenderness. But since she cannot obtain these elevated feelings, she is willing to give at least what the man wants – her body. And this lavish display around her, this blossoming garden, is a cocoon of her dreams, desires, and illusions. Its a piece of her imagined world, where for just a moment, with her eyes closed, she wants to believe that she is loved and needed, more than just for one night. But when the strangers passion is sated, she will be cast into the Abyss, standing on the edge of which she stands. Because it is inevitable. She has made a deal with her conscience: a moment of illusory happiness followed by payment in torment, despair, emotional pain, and loneliness. Will memories of this golden moment save her? I dont think so. They will slowly kill her. Day after day, each one further away from that fateful passion. And how many other women this man will love afterward, she will never know, nor will she want to. Because for her, he will always remain the Only One until the end of her days. He and his kiss...
I first saw this painting in a German textbook for 10th or 11th grade, and I immediately fell in love with the artist and his style!
What does The Kiss mean...? Everything and nothing, I think. It seems to me that everything viewers might not attribute to the meaning of the painting is unlikely to correspond to the authors intention. Everyone sees something different, depending on their experiences, age, needs, perhaps...
Fiore and Alice wrote very beautifully. Its hard to say who is right...
For me, this painting is an allegory of life itself, where extreme despair and endless joy coexist, as do hopelessness and the ability to enjoy fleeting happiness, ugliness and beauty, youth and maturity...
I also see two distinct yet subtle elements here: a gentle, pale, floral feminine element and a dark, graphic, rational masculine one. And both are subject to the primary instinct that drives humanity towards heights of pleasure and depths of vice and despair!
I was amazed and deeply moved by how the artist managed to capture with brushstrokes and colors the unique feeling of bliss that the woman is experiencing in that moment. I always thought it was impossible to convey even with words. Im not sure Id seen anything like this from other artists before.
Олицетворение чувственной весны.
Когда я смотрю на эту картину, я словно сам обнимаю прекрасную деву.
I have a reproduction of this painting on my entire wall. I really like it, but for some reason, no one else seems to share my appreciation; they just shrug their shoulders. Its strange, why is that? And now, after reading the reviews, I only saw comments from women.
Так жаркое Лето овладевает нежной Весной
каждый о себе
Интересные мысли.
Everything mentioned earlier is more akin to the theme of love, while this depicts the quiet despair of a young, blossoming woman facing a wealthy, passionate man. The world is cruel because it is ruled by such men; one cannot refuse them, and their loved ones may suffer. There seems to be no escape, as if standing on the edge of a cliff... she accepts this situation calmly, but there is always hope, so she seemingly tries to grasp his neck with one hand (not how you embrace someone you love).
Эта картина всегда будет притягивать и навсегда останется загадкой.
Morning. Saturday. Im lying in bed, and across from me is a reproduction of a painting encased in amber. I feel like being clever about the painting, but honestly, who cares?... SLEEP.
The other day, my wife and I bought a tapestry of the painting The Kiss. This painting is traditionally purchased as a symbol of family well-being, love, and happiness. Its beautiful...
Yes, while this work may seem romantic at first glance, Europe in the early 20th century was a time of sexual revolution and on the eve of World War I, so many paintings reflect that. Klimts The Kiss is a symbol of an entire movement in painting. Notice the girls hand; its very tense, which emphasizes the pain of love. The girl is almost devoid of feeling due to her love. This painting is highly symbolic and not as romantic as it initially appears.
When I saw the painting, my blood rushed to my face. Its me! Its US! And HIS phrase came back to me: You should have seen your face at that moment! (Gustav Klimt saw, and more than once, he knew what he was portraying). The face attracts with its detachment, its otherworldly quality (as if it were in another realm), forcing you to return to it again and again.
SHE + HIM, and no one else, a cosmos, emptiness all around, an abyss. HE is the one, unique, sent by God, with whom desire, passion, and soul merge into one! He created a golden, blossoming garden for her. She is loved and desired! She believes in every word he says, every movement he makes. Something like that never happens twice. A woman cannot have many things like that. Its happiness, which everyone dreams of.
And her hands! They dont embrace the one she loves. They desperately cling to him. In a moment of passion? Most likely. (And the face says the same). Another thought arises. SHE knows, with a womans intuition, that happiness is not meant to last, and she tries to hold onto it, to hold onto herself, clinging to the edge of an abyss from which she will inevitably fall: loneliness – grief – jealousy – inevitability! Memories. They dont comfort, but slowly kill.
The painting The Kiss is my savior. No, it didnt heal me, but it sobered me up.
I see tenderness, love... He gently pressed his lips to her cheek. Overwhelmed by the tenderness, she closed her eyes and wrapped her arms around him. In my opinion, this is a beautiful connection between two people who have been separated for a long time and longed for each other. Finally, theyre reunited, and that tenderness and emotion in their encounter are palpable. People, love each other with such tenderness and beauty.
Its something I can really relate to. Its the bliss that a woman feels in every cell of her body at that moment of heavenly happiness from the touch of her loved one. Im amazed that it was captured so beautifully with colors. Its almost impossible to express such feelings with words alone.
This situation is an expression of the eternal masculine external and feminine internal worlds, like a dualistic human cosmos of existence. Those who live in this world with love and sensuality are harmonious with it.
The stunning combination of golden hues creates a warm and cozy atmosphere. It feels like youre at home, warming yourself by the fireplace with a comforting book. But this is just a first impression. Upon closer inspection, I saw a wealthy and successful man from whom an aura of absolute power and determination emanates. He is a person who never gives up on his goals. I dont see any love or tenderness; the woman is completely powerless, having surrendered to fate without knowing another way out. Just as nations incapable of defending themselves during wartime capitulate, so too does she yield to this unyielding admirer. At the same time, the brilliance and sparkle of the painting do not allow us to forget about luxury and sophistication; its precisely the combination of colors that makes the painting beautiful and so captivating. Its amazing how we all see this painting in different ways...
Hello! If anyone knows where I can buy or download this picture for a fee, please let me know. I need a high-resolution electronic format for printing. Thank you. [email protected]
Эта картина в полне подходит для печати немного смекалки, и смело вытягиваем в нужный размер, немного обрезана а так ))
There are things that cant be explained, like reading The Master and Margarita ten times and discovering something new on the eleventh time, as if it were the first. This is my favorite painting; it exudes a sense of peace. Its clear that theres a lot of symbolism and allegory here, but you can simply look at it, be silent, and enjoy it. Im not a huge fan of painting in general, but Klimt has captivated me.
The most famous work by Klimt in the Vienna Belvedere Museum always has a queue. Interestingly, it evokes the greatest enthusiasm among visitors from the Far East. Numerous copies and reproductions do not give a complete impression of the original. The painting glows with an absolutely unreal light, like an icon, and features intricate details resembling Eastern ornaments. Suddenly, a couple emerges – he and she, intertwined in a kiss. There is only love, and that encompasses the entire world.
You cannot comment Why?
The subtexts of The Kiss are rich and multifaceted. The overwhelming use of gold leaf signifies divine love, eternity, and the preciousness of the moment. The contrasting patterns on the robes – geometric for the man and circular for the woman – suggest the union of masculine and feminine energies. The floral meadow beneath them can be interpreted as a symbol of nature, fertility, or a fleeting earthly paradise, hinting at the transient yet beautiful nature of their love. The precarious position on the edge of the cliff can imply the vulnerability of love, its existence on the brink of passion and potential danger, or the feeling of being lost in ones own world, detached from reality. Overall, the painting celebrates the universal theme of love, passion, and the transcendent power of human connection, imbued with a sense of decadence and spiritual symbolism characteristic of Klimts Art Nouveau style.
