FORMALIST
The wind drags
An empty white bag across the slabs.
The bag bumps into a flower bed, crawls again, and hits a box.
In this world –
It often seems that – there are few authentic perspectives.
- Youre a formalist,
If you love Antonioni,
Because he is inwardly empty!
Says one (grim, muscular)
To another who, in the flight of crows,
Finds something that cannot be put into words.
- Am I a formalist? Perhaps,
But the texture of the world is interesting,
The sum of various details.
The uniqueness of each moment
Before the verticals.
- Substance is important, says
The first. Yes, but its behind form.
The wind has left the bag, whose appearance
Betrays a dreary, gray norm.
You cannot comment Why?
The child’s face is characterized by large, expressive eyes that dominate the features. The artist has employed a limited palette, primarily consisting of ochre, green, blue and white, contributing to a sense of austerity and emotional restraint. The planes of the childs face are delineated with dark outlines, emphasizing their sculptural quality.
The doves, symbols frequently associated with peace and innocence, are positioned in close proximity to the child, suggesting a protective or nurturing relationship. Their presence introduces an element of hope amidst what might otherwise be perceived as a somber atmosphere. The window acts as a compositional device, framing the exterior view and creating a sense of depth within the confined space.
The overall effect is one of quiet contemplation. The geometric simplification of forms and the restricted color range contribute to a feeling of detachment, while the presence of the child and doves hints at themes of vulnerability, resilience, and the enduring power of hope in times of adversity. The starkness of the setting and the direct gaze of the child suggest an engagement with profound emotional or political realities.
