The body is depicted in a similarly fragmented fashion, with the torso appearing as a series of overlapping planes colored in green, red, and cream. A complex arrangement of heraldic symbols – shields bearing various emblems – is incorporated into the design of the garment. These symbols are rendered with a degree of abstraction, their meaning obscured by the overall stylistic treatment. The lower portion of the figure is clad in what appears to be a stylized version of traditional Polish attire, featuring broad white panels adorned with blue and red accents, along with small figures seemingly attached to the fabric.
The chair itself is also simplified, its form reduced to basic lines and planes. A single nail protrudes from the upper right corner of the background, adding an element of unexpected detail within the otherwise austere setting. The floor is suggested by a pattern of large, angular blocks.
Beyond the surface depiction, several subtexts emerge. The use of heraldic imagery suggests a commentary on identity, lineage, or national representation, though the distortion and abstraction employed undermine any straightforward interpretation. The figures detached expression and fragmented form might be interpreted as an exploration of alienation or the disintegration of traditional values. The overall effect is one of deliberate artificiality; the artist seems to be less concerned with portraying a realistic likeness than with deconstructing and reassembling visual elements to create a symbolic representation. The limited color palette, dominated by dark tones punctuated by bursts of red, green, and cream, contributes to the painting’s sense of formality and restraint.
