In the early landscapes of the painter landscapes are still filled with an incredible spirit of romanticism. Although at this time you can already feel in him a true realist.
We see in the picture those features that were inherent in the landscapes of Central Russia. This can be felt not only in the type of terrain itself, but also in the special charm of the immense plains.
From the 60s Savrasov is formed as a realist. He already has a clear idea. What tasks and methods should have such landscapes. In 1862 the painter saw English landscapes, which made an incredible impression on him.
In front of us an ordinary swamp, which in the middle belt of our country is quite a lot. It would seem that the picture is quite ordinary. But with all that, the artist fills it with a completely new sound. Sunset highlights every detail in a special way. The viewer sees an incredibly grandiose picture, in which many shades are combined. The prevailing gloomy tones do not create an oppressive impression. We can clearly sense that a thunderstorm is about to begin.
Pink reflections foreshadow a strong wind, but in the meantime they become bright spots of the picture, which somewhat enliven it. Savrasov was able to feel the incredible power of a simple picture of nature, which is incredibly strong in its special charm.
It would seem that the everyday ordinary landscape begins to sound completely different, it is only worth looking at them from a certain angle and notice something solemn in every insignificant.
