Автор сего произведения Арнольд Бёклин (Arnold Böcklin), было бы здорово если бы имя художника всё же указали.
Да и в английском варианте название картины пишется как "Isle of the Dead", а не "Island of the Dead". Всего автором было создано 5 вариантов картины, а данное изображение представляет полотно выставленное в Художественном музее города Базель.

The island itself is a complex formation, with visible rock faces interspersed with what appears to be a small structure – perhaps a mausoleum or chapel – and a dense grove of tall, slender cypress trees. These cypresses, traditionally associated with mourning and remembrance, punctuate the skyline, reinforcing the feeling of solemnity. The architecture on the island is simple and austere, lacking ornamentation that might suggest vitality or celebration.
In the foreground, a lone figure rows a small boat towards the island. The individual’s posture is difficult to discern precisely due to the distance and lighting conditions, but they appear solitary and perhaps burdened by their journey. The waters surface is relatively calm, reflecting the somber hues of the sky and the island, creating an unsettling mirror image that blurs the distinction between reality and reflection.
The absence of human activity beyond this single figure amplifies the sense of isolation and quietude. There are no signs of life or movement; instead, a feeling of timelessness pervades the scene. The artist has skillfully employed perspective to draw the viewers eye towards the island, emphasizing its imposing presence and suggesting a destination fraught with significance – a place associated with endings rather than beginnings.
Subtextually, this work seems to explore themes of mortality, remembrance, and the passage of time. The island can be interpreted as a symbolic representation of the afterlife or a place of final rest. The lone figure’s journey suggests a personal confrontation with loss or an acceptance of inevitable fate. The overall effect is one of profound introspection and quiet contemplation on the human condition.
