ABRAHAM AND ISAAC
The desert with its red soil,
Where dark rocks are terrifying.
How free is a person created?
Rather, its the triumph of guilt...
Father and son. And the essence of sacrifice
Is known to the old father.
His restrained gestures
Would have honored even a wise man.
They walk on. With them are servants.
The son is a future sacrifice, but
He doesnt know it. His steps are firm.
To the father, it seems as if nothing matters.
Who stands before God? The poor, the naked,
His greatness cannot be comprehended.
Not much courage is needed
To knead bricks from clay.
The essence of sacrifice is loyalty to God.
The red soil is frightening.
They walk on, towards an ending,
Whose meaning is unlikely to be clear to them.
A white angel has been sent into flight,
He has already taken flight.
The father cried at night for no reason,
Although far from despair.
And he would have given himself to God,
If commanded. And they go on -
But towards a bright ending,
Their path leads to the triumph of faith.

This painting depicts the biblical story of Cain and Abel. I see two muscular male figures in a violent struggle. One figure, presumably Cain, is standing and striking the other, Abel, who is falling to the ground. Abels head is turned downwards, and a splash of red is visible on his forehead, implying he has been struck or wounded. Cains body is tense and powerful as he wields a club-like object, possibly a bone or a heavy piece of wood from the surrounding rugged landscape. The scene is dramatically lit, with dark, ominous clouds or smoke filling the background, adding to the sense of chaos and tragedy. The ground is rocky and uneven, with some sparse vegetation.
