Source of creative inspiration of Marc Chagall

June 14 is a significant date in world history. On this day, not only the famous revolutionary Che Guevara was born (1928), but also in Moscow the grand opening of the exhibition dedicated to the works of the no less revolutionary artist of his era - Marc Chagall. The Tretyakov Gallery, which has become for 4 months (until September 30) the repository of the most striking works of the creator, allows its visitors not only to “see”, but to feel the power of his paintings, without which it is difficult to imagine the development of the artistic avant-garde of the 20th century!

The last major exhibition of works by Chagall took place in the Tretyakov Gallery in 2005, and attracted the attention of more than 128 thousand people. The main difference of the 2012 exhibition is the change in interest in the artist. If before the museum only sought to showcase the most iconic and significant works, now its creativity and personal development are of great interest. Creativity for Marc Chagall has always been both a search for himself and the most rigorous witness to his formation as an artist. Therefore, the early works presented at the exhibition can tell a lot and keep silent about even more.

Visitors will be able to see a huge number of drawings in watercolor and gouache, printed graphics (more than 150 works), painting, sculpture. Studying the exposition this time will be more like an exciting adventure from the early Vitebsk sketches to the masterpieces created already in adulthood in France. In addition, for the first time in Russia, unique works from the artist’s personal family collection will be presented - portraits of family members, scenes of everyday life. Of particular interest should be the images of his beloved wife and the only woman he truly loved - Bella.
