Ukrainian artists go to the barricades

The attitude of the state towards culture should not be judged by the rant and slogan of the election. Reality is often more revealing. On June 10, a meeting of Kiev artists was held, protesting against the illegal destruction of ancient art workshops of the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture.

House 33 on Soshenko Street in Kiev has long been a tidbit. Not surprisingly, it was decided to demolish the workshops and build an elite 25-storey residential complex in their place. After all, daily bread is more important for Ukraine than abstract cultural values! However, neither professional artists, nor students losing a picturesque place to study, do not agree with this state of affairs.

Therefore, on June 10, they “went to the barricades” and organized a huge exhibition of artwork. The paintings of the classical school were adjacent to the works of modern art. The younger generation supported the excitement of famous meters of Kiev painting. In addition, a round table was held as part of the event, dedicated to the development of modern culture and the development of a strategy for the protection of workshops. Photos were viewed showing the different years of this building, which has become a real "conveyor" of young artists who have the opportunity to do their first sketches, sketches and great works.

There was heated discussion between the participants. However, everyone was unanimous in their opinion - it is impossible to allow commercial structures to absorb such an important stronghold of culture as art workshops!
