The Pushkin Museum will show visitors the exhibition of Rembrandt etchings

Museum of Fine Arts (GMII) them. Pushkin provided an opportunity for residents and guests of Moscow to get acquainted with the exhibition “Under the Sign of Rembrandt”, which opened as part of the project “Portraits of Collectors”. This exhibition is a small part of the many years of work of three generations of Mosolov collectors. Portraits of representatives of this family, painted by famous artists Kiprensky and Tropinin, meet visitors at the entrance to the exhibition hall.

It is impossible to show everything that was collected by the Mosolov family, but museum workers did not set themselves such a goal. The creation of this exhibition was an opportunity to tell about the history of Russian collectors of art objects, which became important with today’s revival of interest in creating collections and the emergence of new collectors. An example of the history of the Mosolov family shows that these were real art connoisseurs who not only spent their money on paintings, but also compiled catalogs, made copies of etchings,

It is difficult to give preference to some exhibits presented at the exhibition. Each of them is unique and of great artistic value. However, since the greatest passion of the Mosolov family was collecting Rembrandt etchings, the 50 genuine works of the great master are the greatest pride of the organizers of the exhibition. Among the works of Rembrandt at the exhibition you can see a very rare copy, etching, dating back to 1655, the year “Portrait of Old Haring”.

Thanks to the Mosolovs collection, which contains more than a hundred works by Dutch masters of the 17th century, it is possible to compare the works of Rembrandt with the works of his contemporaries. The exhibition will run until January 13th.
