The first solo exhibition of Andrei Mamaev in his native St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG. The exhibition “Other Nature”, which opened on February 13 in the hall of the Gallery of Modern Art, will acquaint visitors with the work of Andrei Mamaev, a landscape painter whose work has become increasingly popular over recent years.

The exhibition in the Gallery presented works written by Mamaev in recent years. In Russia, this is the first solo exhibition of the painter, and less than 2 years ago, Andrei Mamaev at a solo exhibition in New York introduced the inhabitants of the United States with his work. The artist’s works have acquired many museums in their collections.

Critics argue, trying to identify what style of painting can be attributed to landscapes painted by Andrei Mamaev. Some consider his painting to be realism, others classify the paintings as examples of postmodernism.

Ordinary visitors to the exhibition are not too interested in what this style is called. The important thing is that looking at the paintings of Andrei Mamaev, the viewer is immersed in a mysterious, slightly unreal and romantic natural world. His paintings attract connoisseurs of painting precisely because they show a reminder of classical painting. Some say that the landscapes of Andrei Mamaev are an organic alloy of classic and modern.

Andrey’s works are well known to connoisseurs of painting in Europe and America, but the exhibition representing his work to the inhabitants of the city, native to the artist, is of particular importance to him.

Even the harsh St. Petersburg climate serves as a source of inspiration for him. Landscapes painted by the artist in the spring, Andrei Mamaev’s favorite season, most often reflect its beginning - nature with still bare trees wandering in the fog. Sometimes his landscapes are called "an echo from the Middle Ages." You can see them until March 13th.
