"Northern Italy and the Russian North" in the capital’s House of Russian Abroad

MOSCOW. On January 15, the anniversary exhibition of the family of artists Pyotr Chakhotin and Nadezhda Lavrova opened in the House of Russian Abroad, bearing the name of Alexander Solzhenitsyn. The exhibition includes pastels written by Pyotr Chakhotin and icons - the work of Nadezhda Lavrova.

The exhibition was called "Northern Italy and the Russian North." For a quarter of a century, artists have been living in the Italian city of Piedmont, so pastel landscapes painted in Italy are on display in the exhibition along with views of Karelia and the White Sea, where he has repeatedly traveled.

The main technique, in which Pyotr Chakhotin has been working since 1978, is dry pastel, but the artist also brought graphics to this exhibition. The ink / pen technique uses images of churches located in Russian cities. Entered the exposition of the exhibition and sketches made on trips to Chukotka and the Kola Peninsula.

Pyotr Sergeyevich is not only engaged in creative work, but also is the organizer of many international projects that promote cultural ties between Russia and Italy.

The beginning of the creative path of Nadezhda Lavrova was her passion for facial sewing. In the early nineties, she created a series of embroidered icons, one of which became known not only for the amazing skill of Hope. The icon depicting the Holy Great Martyr Anastasia for seven months was in space at the Mir station.

At the same time, the artist, having mastered the technique of dry pastels, created a series of landscapes and still lifes. Since 1977, when Nadezhda Lavrova graduated from icon painting courses in Kostroma, icon painting became the main direction of her work. From the same year, she became a member of the Union of Artists of the Russian Federation. Many exhibitions in Italy made her work famous among Italians.

The exhibition will be open until February 13th.
