An exhibition of works by Mikhail Shemyakin and Ernst Unknown is opened in Irkutsk

IRKUTSK. More than sixty unique works of art made by famous masters Mikhail Shemyakin and Ernst Neizvestny will be seen by residents of Irkutsk visiting the exhibition opened at the Regional Museum of Local Lore. This event, important for the cultural life of the city, was made possible thanks to the well-known Russian philanthropist and collector Alexander Shadrin.

All works of graphics made by Mikhail Shemyakin, and bronze sculptures by Ernst Unknown, were acquired by the collector from the authors themselves. A part of Alexander Shadrin’s collection are graphic works by Ernst the Unknown, made by the author using ink and using the “pastel” technique.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to get acquainted with the graphics of Mikhail Shemyakin, created by the artist in the 1975-1994-ies. These works were written in Paris and in New York. Among them there are very famous works - "Metaphysical drawings", "Parsley" and "Carnivals of St. Petersburg." The author’s handwriting of Mikhail Shemyakin is recognizable to them at first sight.

For the first time in Irkutsk, the Russian public presents illustrations made by artists for the book "Elephant-on." The author of the book is the avant-garde poet Alexei Khvostenko. Illustrations for Dmitry Bobyshev’s work “The Beasts of St. Anthony” are also exhibited in Russia for the first time. The exhibition also contains graphic works by Mikhail Shemyakin, dedicated to the memory of his close friend, Vladimir Vysotsky, an illustration to the verses of the famous poet and bard.

Over the past fifteen years, the works of Ernst Unknown, included in the series “War is This,” were first presented at the Russian Museum. Irkutsk residents have a unique opportunity to see the work of such a famous master. The exhibition will be open until April 13th.
