"100 Names" - an exhibition of portraits of different eras in the Kaliningrad Gallery

KALININGRAD. Until May 25, the city art gallery hosted the exhibition "100 Names", representing portraits made in various techniques. The exhibition features painting, graphics and sculpture. The earliest works belong to the masters who created their work at the end of the 19th century. The latest - made by our contemporaries at the beginning of the 21st century.

The collections of the gallery contain a significant collection of portraits, numbering about four hundred works of various genres. The collected collection of portraits is significant not only in artistic value. It is also a valuable historical material, giving an idea of the cultural ideals of past eras. Their study provides an opportunity to see how people looked in different centuries, what fashion clothes adhered to

Not everyone knows that even the appearance of people in portraits depended on the time when the artist painted his image. At one time it was believed that the person in the portrait should be beautiful. Therefore, artists on their canvases tried to slightly embellish his appearance, bringing the image closer to the ideal.

Of great interest to visitors are graphic and sculptural portraits created by masters representing the Konigsberg Academy of Arts. The exposition includes works by S. Kauer, G. Wolf, L. Corint and G. Brachert. A large number of works represent the era of socialist realism - the exposition includes works by Soviet artists, among which there are representatives of Kaliningrad. The avant-garde works of Russian artists are also presented at the exhibition.

Some of the works are dedicated to great people. On display are portraits of Kant, Tsiolkovsky, Akhmatova, Akhmadullina and other famous figures of culture. A catalog has been released for the opening of the exhibition.
