The Russian Museum opened the exhibition "There is a people’s war ..." created from the works of artists of the war years

ST. PETERSBURG. About a hundred works created by Soviet artists during the war years, presented at the exhibition "There is a people’s war…", which opened in the Russian Museum. The exhibition is waiting for visitors until June 22nd. Its exposition contains paintings, sculptures and graphic works.

A significant part of these works of art has not previously participated in exhibitions. The artwork is supplemented by archival materials from which you can learn how the Russian Museum worked during the war, how art values were saved, monuments were hidden, unique museum collections were taken away for evacuation.

From the first days of the war, the creation of posters has become a matter of national importance. Many art associations were engaged in their release. The publishing house "Art" on June 24, the third day of the war, released the first poster, which became a call for the destruction of the enemy.

It was created by the famous trio of artists - Kukryniksy. A full expression of the figure of a warrior rushing into the attack, turned into a symbol of the "people’s war." The plastic solutions found by the artists when creating the poster were used in paintings and sculptures.

Although in wartime artists had difficult working conditions, they quickly wrote the history of the war. During these years, not only large battle canvases were executed, but also projects of monumental ensembles were created. For the first time in the museum a large-scale painting “Storming of Sevastopol”, dedicated to the liberation of the city, is presented.

The artists P. Sokolov-Skal and A. Plotnov worked on its creation. This work was supposed to be part of a spectacular diorama. In a separate room there are works dedicated to the days of the siege of Leningrad, reminiscent of the trials and exploits of its inhabitants.
