History Museum of the capital celebrated the International Museum Day with the creation of a new exhibition

MOSCOW. On the eve of the International Museum Day, the Metropolitan Historical Museum presented its visitors a new exposition - The Antique Corner. The exposition, the presentation of which took place on May 15, was located in the main building of the museum, located in the most famous place in Moscow - on Red Square.

In the Main Entrance of the Building, visitors to the museum will see three ancient monuments presented in the created exhibition after a recent restoration. One of them, the sarcophagus, was found in Crimea by Professor Kulikovsky. The find is dated to the second century. According to its contents, it is clear that this was the burial of a woman of noble family. The comb, the remains of the fabric, caskets and nuts in the basket were preserved in it. They are not shown to viewers - antiquities are studied by specialists.

Near the sarcophagus there is a tombstone made in the form of a seated woman. Scientists suggest that it was created in Athens, in the V century, before BC. e. The third monument has already participated in the first exhibition, held at the museum in 1883. It belongs to the first centuries of our era. Once it was part of the front facade, possibly belonging to the temple.

Even at the foundation of the museum, the tradition of decorating the walls of premises with works of art was born. Now on the walls located along the stairs to the second floor, portraits of famous people painted by no less famous painters appeared. Next to them are landscapes of Moscow, made by V. S. Rozanov a century and a half ago.

For the first time after restoration, museum visitors will see the unique work of William Barth, a German painter. He painted a panorama of Moscow in 1820-1821. At this time, traces of post-war destruction were still clearly visible in the city. However, the artist was able to perfectly accurately recreate on the canvas the image of a wonderful city that rose from the ashes.
