An exhibition dedicated to the memory of the artist B. M. Kalaushin opened at the Museum of A. S. Pushkin at the Moika

ST. PETERSBURG. “From the Academy to Abstraction” - under this name in the Pushkin Museum on the Moika on October 17 opened an exhibition dedicated to the memory of the artist Boris Kalaushin. Her exposition includes works created by a talented creative person during the period of 50-70 years of the past century.

The whole life of this outstanding person who grew up in a family belonging to the creative intelligentsia is connected with the life of St. Petersburg. The head of the family, Kalaushin M. M. studied the work of A. Pushkin, worked as the director of the literary museum, which is part of the Pushkin House. He founded, and then headed the All-Union Museum of A. Pushkin.

Emilia Fedorovna, the mother of the artist, had a musical education. Her teacher was S. Alpers - a musician, a close friend of the composer Sergei Prokofiev. The atmosphere prevailing in the house, constantly visited by creative people, played a huge role in shaping the personality of Boris Kalaushin, as an artist.

Part of the wartime, including the beginning of the blockade, the Kalaushins remained in Leningrad. These difficult years for the country overlapped with the childhood impressions of the future artist, which is clearly visible in his early drawings.

The first creative hobby of Boris Kalaushin was “manuscript books”, during the creation of which he often was not only an artist, but also an author of texts. He became the "publisher" of more than one and a half hundred of such original works. The artist received professional education at the Institute of the Academy of Arts.

His main work was to illustrate children’s books. Boris Kalaushin became the author of illustrations for more than a hundred books, among which are tales beloved by many generations in Gubarev, Yu. Olesha, G. Andersen. His works are stored in the Russian Museum, the Tretyakov Gallery and other famous museums.
