In the Stavropol Museum, the opening of the exhibition of Leonid Popandopulo "River of Time" began the year of Greece in Russia

STAVROPOL. Until the end of March, the River of Time exhibition will be open at the Museum of Fine Arts of the Stavropol Territory. Under this name, a personal exhibition of the remarkable Kislovodsk artist Leonid Popandopulo, one of the best painters of Stavropol, opened. Olga Bendyuk, deputy director of the museum, at the opening of the exhibition said that there were two reasons for choosing the works of Leonid Popandopulo when creating the first personal exhibition of the year in the museum.

The main one was the significance of the work of the Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, who is a talented master of classical painting. It is equally important that the current year in Russia is designated the year of Greece, and Leonid Fedorovich was always proud that he was directly connected with the country that had become the birthplace of high art.

Friends and colleagues said goodbye to Leonid Popandopulo in 2004, but the organizers of the exhibition tried to create an atmosphere of personal presence of the artist at the opening of the exhibition. On the screen in the hall, those present saw footage of a chronicle reminiscent of a painter, telling about important events that took place in his life.

This interactive part of the exhibition, which traces the main milestones of the artist’s creative path, contributes not only to a better understanding of the painter’s works, which the organizers called the “chronicler of the era”, but also his character. In each of the paintings of the painter, whether it be a portrait or a genre canvas, both the artist and the philosopher are visible.

The main part of the exposition contains about a hundred paintings by the painter, on which Leonid Popandopulo depicted how people lived and worked in the era of socialism. Among large-scale genre works, one can see many portraits of workers, warriors, people of science and culture.
