"Talk about yourself" - self-portraits in the Abakan art gallery

ABAKAN. Picture Gallery named after F. Pronskikh July 19 opened the exhibition "Talk about yourself." The Romanov Art Gallery, located in Krasnoyarsk, took an active part in organizing the exposition. Most of the exposition consists of self-portraits painted by Siberian painters, however, in the exhibition space there was a place for works of other genres.

The exhibition opened in Abakan presented the best works that participated in the Self-Portrait + competition, which was initiated by the Romanov Art Gallery. The competition was attended not only by famous painters, but also by novice authors. The main task set for the participants of the creative competition was to use the self-portrait genre to express their creative personality.

The gallery owner Valentina Romanova, who was present at the opening of the exhibition, told the guests about the history of the Self-Portrait + project. The initiator of his appearance was the artist Lyudmila Belova, who in 2007 gathered in St. Petersburg the creators of her own portraits. The only restriction was the size of the canvas - 50 x 40 cm.

Subsequently, the competition was held in other cities of Russia, to which Krasnoyarsk joined in 2014. In 2017, artists from Khakassia took part in the Self-Portrait + project. The exposition, which opened under the title "Talk About Myself," contains works by about 40 artists representing the Khakass art school.

In total, about 180 self-portraits made in a variety of techniques were selected for the exhibition. Artists attribute self-portraits to the most complex genre of the art of painting. Some authors in them fully reveal themselves, while others hide under an invented mask.
