MOSCOW. In the library to them. Turgenev in Moscow hosted the award ceremony of the fourth season of the Nora Gal Prize, which is awarded annually for the translation of short prose from English. According to one of the co-founders of the award, publisher and translator Dmitry Kuzmin, the main award of the award this year was left without a winner.
Tamara Kazavchinskaya was awarded a special prize in the nomination "For the literary translation of a non-fiction text" for her translation of essays and notes by Lytton Strechi and Gilbert K. Chesterton, which were included in the series of Shakespearean publications of the journal Foreign Literature. The laureate was awarded an honorary diploma, a collection of selected translations of Nora Gal “April in Paris” and a cash prize of 30 thousand rubles.
During the discussion of the works sent for the award, the story of Io by Oliver Onison in the translation of Muscovite Alexei Kruglov, the novel “The Bear the Climbing Mountain Climbed” by Alice Munro, made by Petersburger Vladimir Bosnyak, the new translation of Kurt Vonnegut’s story “Harrison Bergeron” Ekaterina Kurova and Linda Kleinfeld, a cycle of poems in Frank O’Hara’s Oranges prose, translated by St. Petersburg Ivan Sokolov. In addition, among the finalists of the award are the unfinished novel The Saga of the Sago by Flann O’Brien translated by Tatyana Bonch-Osmolovskaya from Sydney and the story Zusya on the Roof by Nicole Krauss translated into Russian by Irina Leichenko from Amsterdam.
It is worth recalling that the award in memory of Nora Gal was established in 2012 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the famous Russian translator. The objective of the project is to maintain the interest of professional translators in small literary form. The founders of the award are Gal’s relatives - her daughter, editor and literary critic Edward Kuzmin, and her grandson - translator, poet and literary critic Dmitry Kuzmin. The first winner of the Nora Gal award in 2012 was Vladimir Nemtsov, Russian translator, creator of the translators ’online shop resource of languages.
