Writers’ Union awarded the Crown Award

MOSCOW. Naum Korzhavin, a great poet and playwright who celebrates his 90th anniversary this year, became the winner of the “Crown” prize awarded by the Moscow Writers’ Union on May 23.

After the ceremony, Yevgeny Sidorov, the first secretary of the Writers’ Union, said that the MSC decided to award Korzhavin because he is one of the oldest poets in Russia worthy of this award. His life resembles the life path of Solzhenitsyn - it is just as complicated and thorny. Korzhavin was in Lyubyansk prison, then he was sent into exile, for many years he suffered exile and was forced to emigrate. Despite all these difficulties, he created beautiful and bright works.

In anticipation of the ceremony of awarding Korzhavin with a literary prize "Crown" in the club "House 12" an evening was held in honor of the 90th anniversary of the hero of the day. The meeting was attended by many famous Russian poets, including O. Khlebnikov, Yu. Arabov, V. Dolina, O. Chukhontsev, I. Irtenyev, V. Polozkova and E. Bunimovich. They congratulated on such a venerable age, declared favorite poems written by Korzhavin, and told stories from his life.

Naum Korzhavin was born in 1925 in Kiev, later with his family he moved to Moscow, where at the age of 20 he entered the Literary Institute. Gorky. Two years later, Naum was arrested and sent to Lubyanka prison. After 8 months, Korzhavin was sent into exile, which lasted until 1954. In 1956, having received rehabilitation, he was restored at the institute.

Four years later, the poet published his first work - a collection of poems called "Years". However, soon his works ceased to print due to the fact that he took part in the protection of objectionable writers. In this regard, in 1973, Naum Korzhavin emigrated to the United States. Later, already in the 90s, the publication of his works resumed, but the writer decided to stay in Boston. However, the author never forgot his homeland, and every year he comes to Moscow.
