Awarding of the Strugatsky brothers award took place in the northern capital

ST. PETERSBURG. On June 21 this year, at the Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory, the awarding of the Strugatsky brothers prize winners was held for the 17th time. The book "Alchemy of Kostya Zhikharev" by Mikhail Uspensky was recognized as the best literary work in the field of science fiction.

Literally every stage of the award was riddled with the themes of the legendary science fiction brothers. The day of the award on June 21 is an equidistant number between the dates of birth of the brightest representatives of science fiction literature - on April 15, Boris Strugatsky was born, and on August 28 his brother Arkady Natanovich was born. The venue for the award ceremony of the prestigious prize in the field of science fiction was also not chosen by chance - it was in the Pulkovo Astronomy Laboratory that Boris Natanovich Strugatsky worked for a long time as an astronomer.

This year, the Strugatsky Prizes in journalism were awarded to researchers of the works of science fiction writers Svetlana Bondarenko and Viktor Kurilsky. The jury noted their collection “Strugatsky. Materials for the study: letters, work diaries. " It is worth noting that it was Bondarenko who kept the archive of the science fiction brothers, who had recently been evacuated from military Donetsk to St. Petersburg.

The Strugatsky Brothers Prize was established in 1998 with the aim of supporting representatives of Russian science fiction literature and popularizing their works. The competition accepts all works in which the authors create an "incredible, impossible, unprecedented" plot. The Strugatsky brothers are world-famous science fiction writers whose works are included in the world cultural heritage. Prize winners are awarded with gold "Strugatsky Brothers Medals" and cash prizes. Over the years, such award-winning authors as Viktor Pelevin, Mikhail Weller, Dmitry Bykov, Alexander Zhitinsky and others have become prize winners.
