A multivolume library of Russian literature will be published in the USA

MOSCOW. According to a report on the website of the Translation Institute on June 27 this year, as part of the Book of Russia festival and the Year of Literature in Moscow, they signed an agreement with a number of American publishers, according to which Read Russia, Inc will publish a multivolume library of Russian literature in English. The agreement was signed in the GUM building on Red Square.

The Translation Institute in Moscow, together with the Federal Press Agency, negotiated with the English publishing corporation for several years. According to Peter Kalsman, head of a New York publishing house, a positive decision was made, including due to the great interest of Americans in Russian literature, as the Russian News Service reported.

“We are launching a new project. We will publish 100, maybe 125 Russian books in English together with a publishing house in New York called Columbia University Press. Today in America there is great interest in Russian literature. Because there are no sanctions in the literature. We can get to know each other through literature, ”Kalsman said.

For volumes selected for translations, specialists will develop a special design, texts of Russian books will be accompanied by historical references to authors and works, prefaces, as well as comments that are necessary for a better understanding of foreign-language readers of historical and everyday realities of Russia.

Recall that the All-Russian Book of Russia festival was held on Red Square in Moscow from June 25 to 28. Over 300 domestic publishers from all regions of Russia took part in it.
