EASTERN SUSSEX. In the UK, a house is being sold that belonged to the family of Alan Milne, the author of Winnie the Pooh.

The Cotchford Farm mansion was owned by the family of the famous writer for several decades, after which it was sold in 1968 to the guitarist and founder of The Rolling Stones, Brian Hopkin Jones. It was here that stories were written about a funny teddy bear. A cozy shelter, under the canopy of which there was more loneliness than warmth and happiness. The only child who simultaneously became the prototype and character of the fairy tale about Winnie the Pooh did not bathe in the love of his parents. The birth of Christopher Robin (Christopher Robin) discouraged Dorothy and Alexander Alan Milne (Alan Alexander Milne), who dreamed of a girl Rosemary. For a long time he had to wear dresses from the dowry prepared for the birth of his daughter. Mom’s attitude to Christopher was cool and restrained. And the father preferred to devote time to his literary Alter-ego, offering the next portion of stories about Winnie the Pooh to the son who needed warmth and attention. A short rapprochement occurred only in adolescence after the mother left for America.

Hatred of the book and father grew up in Christopher as he grew up. His classmates plagued him, mockingly quoting passages relating to him. Already an adult who dreamed of completely disengaging from “participation” in a famous literary work was reminded of this endlessly, not allowing him to feel like a self-sufficient person. The death of Alan Milne broke the last thread that connected Christopher with his childhood and parents. Relations with her mother were interrupted after her father’s funeral and a slap in the face after a whisper.

For many years, Christopher was the manager of his own bookstore, which he opened with his cousin Leslie Selincourt. He married her against the will of her parents, who feared health problems in future offspring. Their daughter was born with cerebral palsy. The hostility to the famous book further strengthened their determination to start a family. In their business, they deliberately dispensed with the copyrighted winnings for Winnie. Truly Christopher said goodbye to his childhood in a three-part autobiography. And the impressive fees for Winnie the Pooh are listed by his widow in the fund to help children with cerebral palsy.
