Vladimir Medinsky will meet with readers at the festival "Red Square - 2016"

On Saturday, June 4, at 16.00, within the framework of the Red Square 2016 Book Festival (Tent No. 15), the Chairman of the Russian Military Historical Society, Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky will meet with readers.

The festival "Red Square - 2016" will be held in the capital from June 3 to 6. Guests of the event will find for themselves a lot of useful, exciting and scientific literature about the two world wars and their heroes. Books devoted to the history of Russia, its great commanders, iconic figures of the Russian state, will be presented in the Non-fiction pavilion at the RVIO stand (stand No. 6).

The meeting with Vladimir Medinsky will be held June 4 at 16.00 in the tent number 15. The starting point of the conversation will be the 100th anniversary of the Brusilovsky breakthrough - a frontal offensive operation that has become an innovative prologue to the military art of the twentieth century and to victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The Brusilovsky Breakthrough (Lutsk Breakthrough) is a front-line offensive operation of the Russian army under the command of General A. A. Brusilov during the First World War, during which the Austro-Hungarian troops were defeated a second time on the Russian Front. The offensive in the summer of 1916 became part of the general offensive of the Entente (Russia, Britain, France). During the operation, General Brusilov abandoned the idea of advancing with all his forces in one direction. The main blow was carried out by the 8th Army of General A.M. Kaledin (on Kovel), while all the other armies were to go on the offensive and break through the front in their sectors. As a result, 4 powerful blows were inflicted on Austrian positions. On June 4 (May 22), the troops of General Brusilov went on the offensive with powerful artillery training. The Austrian front was broken through. On June 7, troops of the 8th Army took the city of Lutsk. The Russian troops failed to take Kovel, however, the successful actions of the armies of Generals Shcherbachev, Lechitsky and Sakharov allowed Russia to go to the Carpathians. In general, the battles continued from June to the end of September 1916. The overall results of the battles are impressive: 25 thousand square meters were liberated and captured from the enemy. kilometers (Russian troops fought in the territory of Galicia), captured about 500 thousand prisoners, 581 guns, 448 bombers. Austria-Hungary was put on the brink of disaster. At the end of 1916, a food crisis developed, and the new emperor Karl began to look for ways to conclude a separate peace with Russia.
