MOSCOW. The publishing house "AST" has released an autobiographical story by George Orwell.

There are books that are outdated for objective reasons. There are those who should not have been born. And only a few fall into the “books of all time” section. Orwell’s works are one of them. The attraction to the "strong hand" is indestructible. History of cowardice, weakness and fear of truth? The diagnosis is unequivocal - unpreparedness for freedom. During the war in Spain, in which the writer took part as a volunteer, he realized the inhumanity and destructive essence of the totalitarian system, the logic of its impact on the masses, completely disappointed in the "brainchild of the revolution." From that moment he turned into an implacable adversary of the society of total control and criticism of any manifestations of totalitarianism.

The author of cult anti-utopias was struck not only by tolerance for despotism, but also by attempts by representatives of left-wing parties to find an excuse. Including at home. The feeling that "I am a stranger in this time" did not leave him throughout almost his entire life. His works were attacked and criticized. But being outnumbered and keeping the truth doesn’t mean being insane, Orwell said. The phenomenal success of his novels, millions of copies happened after the sudden death of the writer from tuberculosis.

Two books with a slight time difference were published: George Orwell: Biography by Maria Poelevna Karp from Vita Nova Publishing House and the autobiographical novel Down and Out in Paris and London, the first major work of the writer. The first book, richly illustrated, based on unique material, is a story about the life of Orwell, his discoveries, delusions, and the fearless struggle for truth.

“Pounds of Dashing” is a wonderful story, witty, dynamic, written in living language about the experience of life and survival among the poorest segments of the population. A very timely book for those who are ready to despair, was at the bottom of life, deprived of prospects.
