A summary of "Starblood IV:
Odyssey" by Roman Prokofiev

This book is a fantasy novel in the LitRPG genre, published in 2023. The plot unfolds within a gigantic Dyson sphere and describes the adventures of Earth colonist Sigurd Morozov, who harbors a symbiosis with an ancient entity. The protagonist is forced to navigate the dangers of an alien world, the political intrigues of his colony, and the struggle for the girl he loves. The prologue reveals the world’s prehistory — the Age of Darkness, the emergence of the light-bearing Ygg-Trees, and the ancient war with the Worms, hybrids of the Beasts from Beyond that lurk in the dark depths of the spheres and threaten to destroy all life.

Return to Freehold and check

Sigurd Morozov returns to the Earth colony of Freehold. He was long presumed dead in the Broken Lands. He arrives on a Griffin helicopter stolen from the natives, bringing with him Yuki, a Shadow Tribe girl who has lost her memory. Security immediately places Sigurd in isolation. Colony leader Veronica Maxwell and standard-bearer Michael conduct a brutal interrogation using hypnotic Runes. The young man skillfully conceals his true powers and the presence of his inner voice — the White Devil. He manages to withstand Veronica’s mental pressure, keeping his cover story a secret.

Medical tests reveal the presence of a massive amount of A-energy in the hero’s body. This makes Sigurd a wild Ascendant and a legitimate candidate for the stigmata — the system’s governing attribute.

The hero is reunited with his beloved, Travinka. She serves as a medic, and her mother is the powerful silver flaminica, Herb-Speaker. The young people meet secretly and exchange artifacts with Starblood. According to ancient local customs, such a gesture signifies engagement and fidelity to each other. Herb-Speaker categorically opposes the union, dreaming of marrying her daughter to a powerful chieftain. She places the girl under invisible surveillance with the Pixie Rune. The lovers manage to isolate the silver spy in a bottle using sticky nut resin, but the family conflict escalates. Sigurd openly declares to the flaminica that he will not abandon his beloved.

Formation of the squad and shooting stars

Veronica Maxwell forms the special airmobile group "Odyssey." Sigurd becomes the squad’s first pilot, a veteran with the call sign Dynamite is appointed commander, and Travinka secures a position as a field medic. Immediately after its formation, the squad receives an emergency call. The space ark "Helga" drops dozens of rescue capsules onto the surface of a Dyson sphere. The objects fall into the Sea of Grass — a vast green wasteland controlled by savage tribes.

The Odyssey flies to the rescue. Using the helicopter’s maneuverability, the fighters outpace the natives. They shoot down a pack of aggressive Tauri bullmen, rescuing several disoriented Earthlings. One of the capsules is found torn to pieces by the predators. The squad urgently delivers a seriously wounded colonist to the farm of Eirik, the famous Ascendant who left the Freehold due to political differences. In a private conversation, Eirik hints to Sigurd that the Flaminica will only give her daughter to a hero of equal worth. To achieve this, the young man must complete a golden Feat and obtain an artifact of the highest rank.

Continuing their search, the squad discovers a reconnaissance hoverbike shot down by a pulse weapon. It turns out that a well-organized gang of Outcasts is operating in the Green Sea. They are led by former Earthman Knud Larsson, known as Knud. The Outcasts plunder cargo modules, kill sentries, and take colonists prisoner. The bandits ambush the Odyssey, using human shields as cover. The hoverbike sustains serious damage, and the enemy flees through a runic portal.

Vision of the Past and the Secrets of Este

The trail of Knut’s detachment leads to the ruined city of Storm, once known as Este. The Freehold leadership is gathering all available combat spears to punish the criminals. A massive raid of one hundred and fifty warriors and dozens of Ascendants sets out on a difficult trek through the mountain passes.

Along the way, Sigurd secretly uses the captured Saga Rune and relives the memories of a slain enemy. He learns that Knut recently destroyed a camp of mutated rat-men diggers. The bandits have seized the diggers’ discovery — the Skyhawk. This artifact, Kel, is the golden Rune, a gigantic battle armor that grants its owner unimaginable power. Recognizing the threat looming over the expedition, the hero decides to act preemptively.

That night, Sigurd secretly leaves the camp and restores the broken stone symbol of Transference. He teleports to the very center of the Storm’s ruins. Following the White Devil’s clues, the young man evades the psionic attacks of the wraiths in the Great Dream Archive. The hero traverses the dead streets, escaping the Worms patrolling the wasteland, dives into the flooded aqueduct of the Canal of Three Lightnings, and reaches the secret summit.

The Eye of the Observer rests on a windswept platform. The White Devil touches the artifact, and Sigurd sees a broadcast of an ancient cosmic battle with the Creatures from Beyond. It turns out that the Eye contains the alien’s secret vault. The White Devil extracts a golden Universal Rune from the stone patterns, shatters it into ten silver fragments, and completely imbues Sigurd with it. The hero restores his Starblood reserve and unlocks the Mental Attributes tree.

The Golden Colossus and the Orbital Strike

The next day, a heavily armed Earth raid enters the gigantic Storm Square. Knut appears alone before Veronica Maxwell. The leader of the Outcasts demands they drop their weapons and openly provokes the Freeholders. The Ascendants attack him with elemental Runes, but Knut activates the Celestial Hawk.

The gang leader transforms into a colossal golden bird-knight. The Armor of Eternity is completely invulnerable to earthly kinetic weapons and bronze magic. The whip tears apart barrier shields, killing Veronica, Michael, and dozens of elite fighters with a single wing strike. The golden colossus begins methodically destroying the caravan, slicing through armored vehicles with blue beams. The earthlings’ defenses crumble, and bloody panic ensues.

Sigurd shoots Knut with a captured plasma rifle, drawing the mechanical monster’s attention to himself. The young man activates the Rune of Living Chains, temporarily immobilizing the Hawk. Choking with exertion, he provokes the giant into pursuing him. Knut soars into the air, breaking the Observer’s strict law. The orbital security system immediately strikes with its kaedometric blade. A turquoise energy disk slices the high-rise building in half and destroys the golden casing of the armor.

Triumph of the conspirators

Sigurd makes his way to the collapsed structure. He finds Knut, wounded and missing an arm. The hero engages in a swift hand-to-hand fight. Using plant-based Poison Runes and a combat-mechanical assassin, Sigurd manages to paralyze the leader. The scent of pheromones attracts a swarm of giant insectoids from the dungeons, which tear the bandit alive. The hero consumes a record amount of Starblood and takes the damaged golden Skyhawk Rune.

Meanwhile, the final act of a long-simmering political conspiracy unfolds in the square. The panicked Earthlings are met by Travinka’s brother, Mark Cassidy. He deploys a shield generator, creating cover from falling debris. Herb-Speaker appears out of thin air nearby. Flaminica opens a glowing Portal to evacuate the survivors. The battered colonists perceive their duo as true saviors. Taking advantage of the deaths of Veronica and Michael, Mark and his mother de facto usurp power in the Freehold. The entire incident with Knut’s ambush turns out to be a skillfully orchestrated ploy.

Just before the Portal closes, Grasspeaker finds the sleeping Blade of Grass. Flaminica kidnaps her own daughter, dragging her into a hidden spatial Domain. The mother leaves Sigurd with a harsh ultimatum: he will only regain his beloved when he completes the golden Feat or finds her missing husband, Vincent, in the Silver Castle.

The book ends in the ruins of Storm. Sigurd realizes the scale of the coup that has taken place. The hero makes a firm decision to seek the White Devil’s help and step through the gates of Eternity in order to save Travinka and restore justice. Meanwhile, Mark Cassidy and Herb-Speaker celebrate their absolute victory, confident of their undivided dominance over the Earth colony.
