Return in 284 years. Authentic reconstruction of Bach’s lost work on the Novosibirsk stage for the first time in Russia

NOVOSIBIRSK. For the first time in Russia, the reconstruction of the lost oratorio “Passion for the Mark” by I. S. Bach was voiced.

The premiere of “Passion for the Mark” took place 284 years ago in the Leipzig Church of St. Thomas. At the heart of the "passion" is the gospel account of the suffering and martyrdom of Christ. The libretto for The Passion was written by Bach’s beloved librettist, Christian Friedrich Henrici, who worked under the pseudonym Picander. Collaboration with him by the composer lasted 8 years, from 1725 to 1733. During this time, he wrote texts for several dozen works. Bach passions are a kind of spiritual oratorios, in their more powerful and deeper embodiment. The full score of the work in two parts, performed by soloists, orchestra and choir, was lost at the same time, in the 18th century. It consisted of recitations of the Gospel text according to Mark, chorales, arias and choirs. "Passion" has repeatedly tried to revive, based on the remaining disparate fragments.

The seventh reconstruction, proposed by composer Jörn Boysen in 2010, is recognized as the most authentic and bright option. Before becoming the head of the Hague ensemble of early music, Boyzen was a conductor and composer in the opera houses of Utrecht and Rotterdam, directed the Mosse Opera, worked with soloists and groups from different countries.

Before the Russian premiere in the Concert Hall. Arnold Katz, the work was performed only in three cities: London, Amsterdam and Berlin. A significant contribution to the organization of the outstanding event was made by the Goethe Institute Novosibirsk branch. The concert, which took place during the annual festival “Siberian Seasons 2015,” was attended by musicians of the baroque orchestra Pratum Integrum from Moscow and Novosibirsk’s “Laboratory of New Music” (a community of students and graduates of the local conservatory) led by Sergey Shebalin, the Evangelist and Christ parties were given to the soloists from Germany - tenor Benjamin Glaubitz (Benjamin Glaubits) and bass baritone Julian Redlin (Julian Redlin). At the conductor’s console, this evening was Jörn Boysen himself.

The past event is dedicated to the 330th anniversary of Johann Sebastian Bach, celebrated this year.
