Vladimir Fedoseyev introduced the Vienna public to Tchaikovsky’s “Undine” Automatic translate

VEIN. The symphony orchestra conducted by Vladimir Fedoseyev performed the reconstruction of Tchaikovsky’s opera “Ondine”.

The concert tour, which started in Tokyo, continued in Linz, where the symphonies of Sulzer and Tchaikovsky were performed. Music was also played by Pyotr Ilyich at concerts in the Vienna Musikverein. Wiener Singverein Choir, Bolshoi Theater soloists Sergei Radchenko, Anna Aglatova and a symphony orchestra conducted by Vladimir Ivanovich Fedoseyev presented Tchaikovsky’s second opera Ondine. The Viennese public perfectly welcomes Vladimir Ivanovich, who has been the chief conductor of Wiener Symphoniker for almost ten years.

The opera was written in 1869 by order of the Directorate of the Imperial Theaters and it was “rejected” by it. A derogatory review of the premiere, which took place on the stage of the Bolshoi Theater in 1870, was a great shock for Tchaikovsky. His disappointment was so great that a considerable part of the score was destroyed. However, fragments of the “unsuccessful” opera can be found in various works by Tchaikovsky, among which is Swan Lake.

For the first time in Europe, preserved and reconstructed excerpts of "Undina", which the maestro considers the programmatic work of Pyotr Ilyich, were performed on the Musikverein stage. The libretto of the opera was written by Vladimir Sollogub based on the fairy tale by Friedrich de la Motte-Fouqué Undine. During the concerts, excerpts from her were performed by actor Peter Matić. Tchaikovsky knew this tale well thanks to the translation of Zhukovsky.

A week before the premiere in the Austrian capital, a presentation of the book by Vladimir Ivanovich “World of Russian Music” (Die Welt der russischen Musik) took place. Invaluable assistance in translating into German an essay on the work of great Russian composers from different centuries, was provided by philologist Elisabeth Heresch and music critic Wilhelm Sinkovicz. One of the most exciting moments of the presentation was the performance by Fedoseyev Andantino in modo from the second part of Tchaikovsky’s IV symphony. With the help of a favorite composer, the conductor illustrated the advantage of a classic interpretation.
