Opening of the Rostropovich Festival and the memorial plaque in Gazetny Lane

MOSCOW. In the capital, events are held in honor of the 90th anniversary of Mstislav Rostropovich.

The celebration of the 90th anniversary of Mstislav Rostropovich is one of the main events of the last week of March. March 27 in the capital in the morning held events dedicated to the birthday of an outstanding musician. The opening of the memorial plaque on the house in Gazetny Lane, in which Rostropovich and Vishnevskaya lived for many years, has been waiting for a long time. Three years earlier, a memorial to the work of sculptor Igamberdiev was opened in St. Petersburg in house No. 16 on Kutuzovskaya Embankment, which became the first refuge of the famous couple after returning from exile.

The author of the memorial plaque that appeared on the famous house of the “One Hundred Pianos” is Alexander Rukavishnikov, master of sculptural portraits and monumental compositions, a successor of the famous creative dynasty. The maestro would certainly appreciate the unbanality of the composition, the lack of pathos, good humor and accurately conveyed characters. The moment of life of two loving people captured in stone. The festive overture of Shostakovich, performed by the daughters of Rostropovich and Vishnevskaya - Elena and Olga, the artistic director of the Helikon-Opera Dmitry Bertman and other guests of the ceremony, who sounded at the opening, created an simultaneously upbeat and warm atmosphere. Rukavishnikov also became the author of the bust of the hero of the day, donated to the Tchaikovsky Conservatory.

On the evening of the same day, the VIII International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival began, which will end on April 4. Performed by the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the St. Petersburg Philharmonic under the direction of Yuri Temirkanov, the works of Ravel and Symphony No. 2 by Y. Sibelius were performed. In Moscow and the Northern capital, concerts are held with the participation of domestic and foreign stars. Among them are the Washington National Symphony Orchestra, with which the outstanding cellist and conductor collaborated for 17 years, the Grammy Award violinist Maxim Vengerov, the Yurlov Choir Choir, and the Evgeny Svetlanov Orchestra. The audience is expected to meet with famous Japanese groups - the Tokyo Philharmonic Choir and the Yokohama Sinfonietta Orchestra conducted by Kazuki Yamada.
