Eugene O’Neill trilogy in the premiere performance of RAMT "The fate of Electra"

The first in the new season premiere of the play staged by the artistic director of the theater Alexei Borodin was held with great success at the RAMT Moscow Youth Theater. The hall, filled to capacity with spectators, empathized with the heroes of the tragedy, staged according to the trilogy of the world-famous American writer Eugene O ’Neil, whose literary work was awarded the Nobel Prize. The original name of the play, which sounded like “Mourning Electra to the Face”, was changed in the theater. The premiere performance was called "The Fate of Electra".

The plot of this play, which, like Borodin’s premiere performance, was played on Broadway on October 26th, only this was the year 1931, which is familiar to many viewers of the older generation and lovers of classic cinema from the film Love under the Elms, in which the main role was brilliantly played by the unforgettable Sophia Loren. The plot basis of the tragedy is the story of the Mannon family, in which the once-committed crime makes the lives of future generations go the same way, attempts to hide family secrets lead to the following tragedies in their lives.

The story described in the play closely intersects with the plot of the famous ancient Greek myth of Princess Elektra, who commits the murder of her mother. It was revenge for the poisoning by the mother of Electra’s father. Almost each of the characters in the history of the Mannon family has its own prototype in ancient Greek tragedy. Alexei Borodin believes that this work, written in the first half of the last century, is addressed today, continuing to pose an eternal question for people - is it possible to step over death to start a new life? Such a choice can be made before a person at any time, it does not depend on the age. in which his life takes place.
