The festival dedicated to the great playwright takes place in Ostrovsky’s House

MOSCOW. For the tenth time, a festival is held on the stage of the Maly Theater, dedicated to the work of Ostrovsky, which will open on January 19th. The first festival performance, staged by the play of the great playwright “Truth is Good….” will be shown by actors from Minsk representing the Drama Theater named after Gorky.

The festival, which received international status this year, was called "Ostrovsky in Ostrovsky’s house" not by chance. All the work of Alexander Ostrovsky has an inextricable connection with the Maly Theater. All plays written by a playwright, and their number reached 48, the theater-goers saw on the stage of the Maly Theater. Ostrovsky not only brought his plays here, but sometimes read them, and even conducted rehearsals himself.

Some works were written by Ostrovsky at the request of the theater troupe. The Maly Theater was called the “Ostrovsky House” during the life of the playwright, and today, a bronze monument to the great master of the play greets every spectator who visited the theater. To date, the theater’s repertoire has 12 performances staged based on plays by Alexander Ostrovsky.

In addition to the theater staff from Minsk, the theaters of Omsk, Orenburg and Ryazan brought the plays of Ostrovsky to the tenth festival. Take part in the festival and the theater studio "Revelation", a young team founded by graduates of the famous "Schukinki".

The festival’s poster has the best performances of theater groups, their names are familiar to every theater audience. It is worth noting that the performance "Mad Money" is presented on the poster twice - one production came from Ryazan, and the second - from Orenburg.

The festival program will close on the evening of January 23rd with the performance "Wolves and Sheeps" staged by the hosts of the festival - the Maly Theater.
