MOSCOW. In the evening, April 25th, People’s Artist Yuri Yakovlev, as usual, will appear on the stage of the Vakhtangov Theater in the play “Marina”. Only this time there will be many times more flowers and louder applause - on this day, Yuri Vasilyevich turned 85 years old.

It is hard to believe that a talented and beloved theater audience actor, who has already lost count of how many roles he played in his native theater for 60 years, was not admitted to VGIK in his youth. denied admission with the phrase "non-kinogenic."

Yakovlev entered the Shchukin school, from where he was almost expelled for a deuce obtained by acting. Only thanks to his teacher Mansurova, an unfortunate student Yuri Yakovlev was able to continue his studies, and the Vakhtangov Theater received a wonderful artist in his team.

More than sixty years ago, the entire theater capital spoke with admiration about the debut of the young actor Yuri Yakovlev in a play based on the tale of Marshak, where he played the Zamorsky Prince. Over the years, the artist has played many roles, among which he considers Chekhov to be his favorite theatrical work, and Steve Oblonsky among the film roles. There is one more theatrical role that Yuri Vasilievich always recalls with great pleasure - the charming Pantalone, the hero of the legendary performance “Princess Turandot”.

Now Yuri Yakovlev plays only one role in the theater - Nikolai Alekseevich in the play “Pier” based on Buninsky “Dark Alleys”. However, once again, while reviewing their favorite movies, the audience, as before, empathizes with Prince Myshkin, laughs at the adventures of the most charming Tsar Ivan Vasilyevich - the most unloved role of his beloved actor.
