A new incarnation of the famous "Salome" was seen in Nizhny Novgorod

NIZHNY NOVGOROD. For two nights in a row, on June 13 and 14, on the stage of the Academic Drama Theater, a story was unfolded in front of the Nizhny Novgorod theater-goers described in one of the most controversial plays included in the world theater repertoire.

The theater premiered the play "Salome", staged on the famous drama of Oscar Wilde. The staging of this play was repeatedly banned in the author’s native country, England. The play, staged in Russia by Roman Viktyuk, long before the premiere caused an mixed reaction from critics.

In Nizhny Novgorod, the story of the princess from Ancient Judea was put by the director from St. Petersburg Iskander Sakaev. “Salome” became the second work of the director on the Nizhny Novgorod stage. The play “Island of Sins” staged by him earlier was enthusiastically received by the audience.

The performance "Salome" even before the premiere was able to see the journalists for whom the director staged a pre-premiere screening. Although the invited viewers saw only small excerpts from the play, but even the little that they managed to watch caused an eagerness to watch the whole action of the play as a whole.

Those who managed to see the performance completely did not remain disappointed. The performance promises to become one of the events of the theatrical season. The director gave the theater-goers a real gift - in the play the text written by the playwright is organically interwoven with plastic, musical accompaniment, which combines ancient performance techniques with modern rhythms.

The co-author of the plastic component of the play was the famous St. Petersburg choreographer, director of the Fortress Ballet Theater Elena Prokofieva. In the role of Salome, the young actress Margarita Bagoley appeared in front of the audience, working in the theater only for the first season.
