Poems by L. Martynov and lyrics by A. Pushkin in the musical were "Omsk Prisoner"

OMSK. On the eve of the city day, the artists of the Omsk Musical Theater made a wonderful gift to their fellow countrymen - for two days, on the 1st and 2nd of August, the premieres of the performance “Omsk Prisoner” took place on the stage of the theater. The play was based on a story that happened in reality and is described in a poem by the famous Russian poet Leonid Martynov.

In Russia, this poem is translated into theatrical language for the first time, although it was written long ago, at the very end of the nineties of the last century. The performance was staged by Nikolai Skorik, director of the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov. When creating the production libretto, Skorik used several Martynov’s works at once, as well as fragments of Pushkin’s poem “The Prisoner of the Caucasus”.

The decoration of the production was performed by the chief artist of the theater Sergey Novikov. On the eighteen-meter scenery, created from archival photographs of Omsk. That was exactly what he was in the century before last, when he was seen by the protagonist of a poem written by Martynov - The True Story of Uvenkai.

The author of the music for the play, composer Andrei Semenov, together with the director of the production, Nikolai Skorik, called their work "musical past." The story told in Martynov’s poem tells about the fate of a young pupil of the school of translators, forcibly brought from their native places to Omsk.

The production of Leonid Martynov’s poems echoes Pushkin’s lyric works, the passion for which will be for the young Asian translator the beginning of the path to learning Russian culture and love for it. The entire theater troupe enters the stage in the play, as well as children who have undergone serious competitive selection.

Martynov’s several poems are performed by Oleg Tabakov, recorded by the People’s Artist specifically for the performance. "Omsk prisoner."
