The reconstruction of the Musical Theater of Alexander Gradsky

MOSCOW. On Friday, August 23, the acting mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, visited the Alexander Gradsky musical theater under reconstruction. According to him, before the end of this year, the reconstruction of the theater building will be completely completed.

The history of the creation of the theater under the guidance of the famous artist began back in 1991, when the former Burevestnik movie theater was transferred to the Moscow Theater and Concert Association by the Moscow government. However, the reconstruction of the building in Zamoskvorechye, built in 1957 according to the project of architect Zholtovsky, began only in 1998.

There were many stories around this reconstruction, starting from the lack of funds necessary for the construction, ending with an unscrupulous contractor, the contract with which was eventually terminated. Finally, in the spring of this year, Mostotrest became the general contractor, immediately proceeding with the reconstruction of the building.

The construction was financed thanks to the inclusion of the object in the capital’s targeted investment program. Today, the building of the theater is in full swing decorating the interior. The former cinema will turn into a modern multi-purpose building, where there is a hall for 500 seats, lounges for actors, rooms for sound engineers and illuminators.

A dance hall and a small coffee bar are equipped. Alexander Gradsky noted - since the residents of the area are accustomed to having a cinema in this building for many years, the tradition should be maintained. A cinema hall should also be equipped, where it will be possible to show films loved by many generations of viewers.

According to Sergei Sobyanin, all the “long-term construction” of cultural objects in the center of Moscow will be completed by the end of the year.
