In Penza, waiting for the premiere of a new version of "Romeo and Juliet" Valery Belyakovich

PENZA. The Penza Drama Theater will open on January 8 for the premiere of the performance "Romeo and Juliet", scheduled for January 22. The production is staged by the famous Russian director Valery Belyakovich, the founder of the popular Metropolitan Theater in the Southwest.

For many years, joint work has been associated with the Penza Theater of Valery Belyakovich. For the first time, the director worked with theater actors in 1988, and the upcoming premiere is the tenth in a row. The performances “Inspector General” and “Dolls” staged by Belyakovich in 2010 are still being performed on the stage of the theater.

The director turned to the production of “Romeo and Juliet” for the last time in the year 20011, when on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater. Gorky premiered his eighth version of the immortal play. Then Belyakovich confidently said that this production of the story of young lovers for him would be the last.

However, before the upcoming premiere in Penza, less than two weeks are left. Viewers will see another version of the stage reading of the play “Romeo and Juliet” by Valery Belyakovich. Penza theater-goers are looking forward to the premiere, as this performance, staged by Belyakovich, has been in the theater’s repertoire for ten years - since 1994.

Now the director will present an updated performance. Only three artists will participate in the play from the old cast - the honored artist of the Russian Federation Galina Repnaya will appear on the stage as a nurse. The vivid image she created is still in the memory of the audience.

Grigory Mazur and Vasily Konopatin also will play familiar roles - the father of Juliet and the monk Lorenzo. Young actors - Elena Pustovalova and Pyotr Matyushkov will appear on the stage in roles of young lovers.

The master entrusted the first rehearsals to his student, Maxim Novikov, and from January 7, Valery Belyakovich himself was working on the performance.
