"Storage Unit" - a documentary festival at the Taganka Theater

MOSCOW. Within two days, March 15-16, an unusual festival will be held at the Taganka Theater, organized as part of the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the famous theater. The festival, called the “Storage Unit”, was conceived from the first days of work in the theater of the Jubilee Year Group.

The initiator and organizer of the festival, Anna Banasyukevich, said that there is a huge archive in the theater, where not only the protocols of the artistic councils were preserved, in which prominent representatives of culture and science, who became legends of the 60-80s, but also reviews of performances, correspondence with by the authorities. There is also a solid video archive and many audio recordings.

These materials are the most valuable witnesses of the time, with the help of which it is possible to get in touch with the history of Taganka, comprehending it from the position of today. The festival participants were invited to choose a significant fact from the history of the theater, or one of the performances, creating a documentary play based on available materials.

The result of this work was five copyright texts, which will be read on the Small Stage of the theater on March 15-16. Each of them in various ways represents the history of the theater. Andrei Stadnikov worked on the restoration of fragments of performances affected by censorship. Andrei Rodionov will present studies of events in the theater related to the departure of Lyubimov in 1984 and the appointment of Efros to Taganka.

The readings of all five plays were prepared by the directors R. Malikov and T. Batalov. In addition to readings, the program of the festival provides for showing directorial sketches in which the history of the play “Live” and the story of Taganka’s life in the 90s will be presented. A round table will also be held with prominent representatives of various cultural spheres.
