MOSCOW. The closing ceremony of the VII International Film Festival on the life of people with disabilities "Cinema without barriers" was held on November 17 at the capital’s cinema "October". Spectators who attended the ceremony were the first to find out which films received awards from a strictly jury, chaired by film director Vadim Abdrashitov.

The main goal of the film festival “Cinema without Barriers” is the opportunity to draw the attention of society through art to the problems that people with disabilities face in everyday life, to demonstrate the diversity of interests and their potential opportunities. In addition, the festival is designed to show people with disabilities that there are many examples of active life and opportunities realized, regardless of any circumstances.

So, in the nomination "Best Documentary" the prize was awarded to the Australian cinema "On the Road". “People with disabilities are the most numerous minorities both in Russia and in America,” said the festival’s jury member, documentary filmmaker John Alpert at the time of the award. - Such films help us better understand these people, their contribution to society. The film of the Iranian director Shahriyan Porseydyan "Cold Earth" received the prize "For the best documentary short film." The prize was awarded by a member of the jury, documentary director Andre Osipov. In his speech, he said that every film of the “Cinema Without Barriers” film festival is a story that teaches each person to be kinder, appreciate another person, be more attentive to each other and always help those people who need any help. “The“ Cinema Without Barriers ”festival is about a person, his self-fulfillment, internal potential, and it doesn’t matter whether he is disabled or not,” he said.

The Russian documentary "After the War", shot by Veronika Solovyova and Evgeny Golynkin, received an award for the best film on the rights of people with disabilities. The German director’s film “My Way to Olympia” about people with disabilities involved in sports at a professional level, was awarded as the most life-affirming film. The special prize of the Best Friends Charitable Fund for the best film about people with mental disabilities received the German-Italian film Special Needs.

The chairman of the jury, Vadim Abdrashitov, in his closing speech said that the films that took part in the festival “need to be shown every day on state television channels, instilling in our audience tolerance, understanding and a sense of concern for our neighbors.”
