"Cherry Orchard" from Lev Dodin on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov

MOSCOW. Theater MDT brought to the capital "Cherry Orchard", staged by the outstanding director Lev Dodin in his theater. Petersburg audiences saw the premiere in the spring, but metropolitan theatergoers showed it for the first time. The new version of "The Cherry Orchard" appeared before the Moscow public on the stage of the Moscow Art Theater. Chekhov.

Lev Dodin had previously turned to the Chekhov play - for the first time it was staged by him in 1994. Twenty years passed, and the famous director again returned to Chekhov’s work, which became even more relevant, causing even more analogies with the country’s current history. The director spoke about this, starting work on the production.

On the eve of the Moscow premiere, Lev Dodin called "The Cherry Orchard" one of Chekhov’s most historical plays. The situation described in the play is characteristic of the moment experienced by the country today. Talking about his new work, the director noted that the performance can not be compared with its previous version. In this reading a completely different circle of thoughts arose.

Together with Lev Dodin, Alexander Borovsky worked on the play. Recently, the artist has been constantly working in collaboration with the head of the MDT. The creative duet approached the design of the performance in a very unusual way, turning the auditorium into the Ranevsky’s house. The director believes that his performance has become a lively dialogue with the audience, as they become involuntary participants. Actors, moving in the auditorium, share with the audience the most secret.

The director entrusted the main roles of the play to young, but already well-known artists. Danila Kozlovsky plays the role of Lopakhin, Ksenia Rappoport plays Ranevskaya, and her daughter Varya plays Elizabeth Boyarskaya. Dodin himself says that without such an excellent team of actors, the performance would not have taken place.
