VENICE. The press service of the 72nd Venice Film Festival, which will be held from September 2 to 12 in Venice, unveiled a list of contestants. Among them was the Russian film "Francophonie. The Louvre under German occupation ”by the outstanding director Alexander Sokurov. Together with her for the "Golden Lion" will fight another 20 films.

In the center of the plot of the documentary-game picture “Francophonie. The Louvre under German occupation ”Paris in 1940 during its occupation by fascist forces. The main character of the film, Jacques Jozhard, director of the Louvre, is trying hard to take various measures to save the world’s art treasures from plunder and destruction by Hitler’s army. The painting is a joint production of France, Germany and Holland.

Traditionally, the competition program of the Venice Film Festival consists of films shot by world-famous directors. Of particular interest this year is the historical work "Girl from Denmark" by British director Tom Hooper. In the film, the main character is the Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne, who played the artist Einar Wegener, who became the first man in the world to change his gender.

The opening of the festival will be marked by the screening of the premiere of the film “Everest” directed by Balthasar Kormakur, and the international film forum will close by showing the Chinese film “Mr. Six” directed by Hu Guang. In addition, as part of an out-of-competition program, spectators will be presented with the gangster drama "Black Mass" with Johnny Depp.
