The directorial debut of Nemes Jeles László - “Son of Saul” (Saul fia) is an absolute favorite not only of the festival held in the capital. Having pushed aside the works of the venerable and bronzed, he collected a crop of prizes unthinkable for a beginner from a small European country: Golden Globes, Oscars, Grand Prix in Cannes and a number of other equally important film awards.

Nemesh hatched a film about Auschwitz for many years. Talking about the Jewish Sonderkommando, forcing such unfortunate people to go into gas chambers, and after carving their corpses, he does not spare the viewer’s feelings, trying to hint at a hypothetical light at the end of the tunnel. In the hopelessness of hell, it is simply impossible. The great actor Göza Röhrig (Röhrig Géza), left without parents at an early age and adopted by a Jewish family, “fell ill” with Auschwitz after a trip there as a student. The tandem of the director and actor, for whom the Holocaust theme is an enduring pain without a limitation period, has led to the creation of a work of exceptional strength of emotional impact.
